My first performance was at the opening ceremony to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations between Ireland and Japan in 2017. I joined the Experience Japan Taiko Drum Team on shinobue and shakuhachi.

I participated in the TCD Creative Challenge, The Music of Silence: its interpretation and performance (https://www.tcd.ie/trinity-creative/challenge/2016/tien-and-duckworth.php). This involved musicians of Korean, Chinese and electronic music as well as talks on John Cage and my own lecture on Ma or silence in Japanese music.

I performed with Junshi Murakami at the opening of an exhibition of Japanese art at Dublin’s Chester Beatty Library that was opened by Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado of Japan. We played the original version of ‘Kimigayo’ which was composed by an Irish band leader, John William Fenton in 1870.

As part of The Art of Friendship: Japanese Surimono Prints in the Chester Beatty Library, I performed a concert on August 27 with koto player, Etsuko Chida. It included pieces such as Haru no Umi, Kaze no Uta and Yugao. We also performed a piece by Ichiro Seki which received its first performance in 1975 in Dublin.
